Description
Over the years the name Hua Mulan has become synonymous with the Walt Disney animated film Mulan and more recently with the 2020 American action drama film by the same name. But Mulan's roots go a lot deeper than that. Hua Mulan is an icon of Chinese literature and a worldwide phenomenon. Mulan's legend began in a ballad known as The Ballad of Mulan. In this tale, Hua Mulan disguises herself as a man as a means to take her elderly father's place in the Chinese army. Mulan wages war for a dozen years and during this time she becomes renowned. This documentary takes a look at the legend of Hua Mulan, a story that has endured for centuries, and continues to inspire to this day. Take a journey to ancient China and discover Hua Mulan
